Open Work Permit

Overview

An Open Work Permit allows eligible foreign nationals to work for any employer in Canada, without needing a specific job offer or Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). It’s a flexible and widely-used option for spouses of students or workers, graduates with a PGWP, and certain applicants under humanitarian or bridging programs.

Who Can Apply for an Open Work Permit?

You may be eligible if you are:

  • The spouse or common-law partner of a full-time international student (with a valid study permit)

     

  • The spouse of a skilled foreign worker employed in Canada under NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3

     

  • A graduate eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

     

An applicant under a bridging open work permit or refugee/humanitarian category
